What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is disguising oneself with the use of technology to mentally damage and harass another human being.
The story I want to share
In my story, I was the:
It happened on...
Here's what happened
A couple of years ago, my friend invited me into a group chat that included three other people. It mainly involved basketball related topics. However, what initially seemed as an innocent chat became a deeply heated argument between me and one of my former friends. The person that I had supposedly angered went to my school and threatened that he would deal with me in the halls. However, I best guessed that I leave the conversation alone. Considering that there was nothing to gain from the chat, I did just that and became a survivor to a real life cyberbullying event.
3 things I want you to know
Don’t make unnecessary comments that won’t benefit you.
Refrain communication with someone that you don’t have reliable knowledge on.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
What can you do?
- Make sure that you are inclusive to the situation of someone who has been victim to bullying
- Friends or peers should attempt to mediate any tensions between both parties
- Social media platforms should improve responsiveness to cyberbullying matters that are reported
Jerry the Giraffe
Ability to receive undivided attention and inoffensive responses when necessary.
To disregard any possibilities related to breach of confidentiality and trust.
An area where freedom and comfort is not restricted.
What I want adults to know
@parents, Respond to cyberbullying appropriately, as in preventing yourself from putting your child in a worse situation than they already are!
@teachers, Remember to be inclusive to all students, and refrain from any urge to utilize bias.
